Hi, my name is John Kim and I am the co-founder of Shed Mania during 2020. This idea actually came about right after I built a she-shed for my wife during the time of the pandemic. You see, we don’t have the biggest house and with 7-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son, she needed a space to work and have her zoom meeting with the shelter in place order. My wife loved the private space and I thought, “I bet, a lot of people out there who can use this space!” and that’s when the Shed Mania was born.
My partner and I are real estate investors in the bay area, unlike other flippers, we are very much a hands-on with our contractors from start of the project to finish. We take pride in our attention to detail of our completed renovations.
Right before pandemic hit, we were working on several high-end projects in the Oakland area. After those properties were sold, we decided to change gear and stick with the median priced homes. That gave us more time to work on other business ventures and my wife convinced me to launch Shed-Mania.
So far, the response has been amazing and more and more people are looking for a space like this to accommodate their current life style. Last year, California changed the law for building an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit), however the cost of entry is still very high. A detached ADU can cost $200,000.00 or more depending on the options. That’s a huge spending during this pandemic when every dollar counts. Shed Mania offers an affordable alternative choice for many people out there who are looking for an extra space.
